A slightly more salty weekly episode. CMON holds a stealth garage sale in the guise of a campaign to create soundtracks and artbooks for its games. They are actually clearing out warehouse leftovers from previous campaigns. Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers has released a fantasy TTRPG as a well-designed and illustrated 97-page PDF called Feast of Legends. Critical Role held a sponsored livestream and we are all left wondering “Why?” Chris played a session of Girl Underground by Jesse Ross, creator of Trophy. Also tried the Forbidden Lands RPG by Free League.

Ken Spencer talks to us about the Why Not Games Kickstarter for the adaption of Rocket Age to “the world’s greatest role-playing game” 5th edition. He also talks about the inspiration for the setting and also their plans to keep all books for Rocket Age available in both “classic” version, using the original Vortex system, and the DnD 5e ruleset. If you like pulp science fiction with a modern 1930s viewpoint and only ever play DnD, check out Rocket Age 5e.

This week begins Idle Red Hands Weekly, a shorter format update podcast to let you know what we are working on and what’s coming up in the future. We will talk about gaming news, our favorite new releases in the tabletop world and also our favorite crowdfunding projects. In addition, we answer questions from listeners and give you teasers for topics of our upcoming longer episodes. All of this in under thirty minutes! Subscribe to the podcast, if you haven’t already, and along with our regular in-depth discussions, reviews and gaming inspiration, we will keep you up to date.

In our premiere episode we discuss two Kickstarter projects in their final week Swordsfall and Mysthea: Legends from the Borderlands RPG. Also upcoming topics on the podcast and dodging magic in the Forbidden Lands RPG.

We’re planning to help kickstart this “anthology of ways to use Cortex Plus from MWP’s award-winning Leverage & Smallville RPGs: hacks, settings, and options“. It looks really good in its own right. However, we’re really excited about the possibility of a Marvel Heroic Roleplaying fantasy hack. (Those who listened to Gladiators know why.) Unfortunately, it’s a $25,000 stretch goal.
They are over $20,000 with two weeks to go, but we don’t want to leave anything to chance. If you are at all interested in any of these games, the book looks well worth the $10-25 price. If you don’t support this product, many children will grow up not knowing the pleasures of playing gladiators with the MRH system.

In our last episode of the year, we look at the gaming stories of 2012 that we liked and didn’t like. D&D Next manages to make both lists.

Having successfully recovered from The Towel Incident last week, we return to discuss two “Powered by the Apocalypse” games: Monsterhearts and Dungeon World. What does a high school monster love story game have in common with a throwback to old school D&D? Studded leather.

After listening to the episode, Lyal felt that Chris and Wayne didn’t really explain how the Dungeon World game works. There is now a write-up of the session we played both here in the Idle Red Hands forum and here in the Dungeon World subforum of the Barf Forth Apocalyptica forums.

In our first interview episode, we talk to Tony and Faon Grandinetti, two members of the creative team behind Emergence, a fantasy and SF RPG on Kickstarter. This may be the first game spawned in traffic.

You can find Emergence on Kickstarter, and make sure to check out the Emergence website for more information on the world of Kython.

Oh, Lyal! Lyal messed up the audio. Apologies if it doesn’t sound crystal clear.
