An artist who had contributed to a new Dungeons & Dragons book admitted to enhancing their artwork with AI tools. Wizards of the Coast, the company behind D&D, is having the artist resubmit the work and updating their guidelines to prevent future AI-enhanced art submissions. The controversy arose because the AI-enhanced art included in the book had not been previously disclosed to the publisher.

CCP Games, the company behind the online game Eve Online, is collaborating with Titan Forge to create a board game adaptation called “Eve The Board Game.” The board game aims to capture the essence of the complex spacefaring MMO, featuring 4X game mechanics (exploration, expansion, exploitation, extermination). The adaptation seeks to bring the intricate player-driven dynamics and themes of the original game into the board game medium.

There was a theft of over $300,000 worth of tabletop gaming cards at the Gen Con 2023 convention. Thieves used a pallet jack to steal a pallet of cards while vendors were setting up for the event. The specific cards stolen and the companies affected have not been identified. Authorities are seeking public assistance to recover the stolen items.

Finally, the ENnies awards ceremony at Gen Con recognized excellence in tabletop roleplaying gaming. Various products and content were awarded, including the Best Product of the Year and Best Setting awarded to “Vaesen RPG — Mythic Britain & Ireland” by Free League. The ENnies awards are a fan-based recognition of achievements in the tabletop gaming industry. The update also mentions various announcements and expansions related to games showcased at Gen Con.

The Weekly LIVE 182 – Radiant Citadel Nominated for Nebula Award, Hellpiercers, AMC’s Walking Dead Universe and You’re In Space and Everything is Fucked by Dinoberry Press

One of last year’s best DnD books, Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel, has been nominated for a Nebula sci-fi award, in the Game Writing category, where it sits alongside fellow finalists Elden Ring and Stray.

Sandy Pug Games’ HELLPIERCERS Kickstarter campaign has reached its funding goal of $29,000 with 25 days still remaining. The campaign is set to end on April 8, 2023, and backers can look forward to an exciting tactical Hell-slaying action game with base building, overwhelming build options, and map-based strategy.

An upcoming TRPG, The Walking Dead Universe Roleplaying Game sees players attempting to survive in the world of the television series, The Walking Dead, which is based on the graphic novel series from Image Comics. A crowdfunding campaign for the new tabletop RPG is currently live on Kickstarter, with the description for the title revealing more details about how it will play and what kind of features it will contain.

Dinoberry Press is releasing a new  tabletop RPG titled “You’re In Space And Everything’s Fucked”. Based on the horror of video games like Dead Space and movies like Alien. Their Kickstarter campaign has just pushed through their goal of $28,400, with three weeks left to back the game.

The Weekly LIVE 174 – Privateer Press’ Iron Kingdoms Statement, Non-OGL Bundle of Holding, Free League Two New Licenses and Hollywood 1947

Privateer Press releases a statement about their Iron Kingdoms RPG. The setting became the inspiration for their miniatures game War Machine. It uses the OGL and depending on what WotC does it may need to find another system or license.

There are two Bundle of Holding if you are looking for non-OGL TTRPGs. These bundles are DRM-free PDFs and offer a huge variety of gaming systems for gamemasters and players to try out.

Free League has announced two new game licenses. Because of recent OGL events they have updated their Year Zero Engine OGL and SRD and also a specific license for publishing third-party adventures for their successfully Kickstarted upcoming Dragonbane RPG. 

Facade Games has the fifth entry in their Dark Cities game series on Kickstarter. Hollywood 1947 is a social deduction game that is set in the blacklisting-crazy, red scare Hollywood studio system. Players take the role of a studio employee working on their latest film.THe components like all their previous games are gorgeous and the game box is a replica of a hardcover book that will sit perfectly alongside the previous games.

Cubicle 7 is excited to announce a new Warhammer 40,000 roleplaying game! Imperium Maledictum is the spiritual successor to the beloved series of roleplaying games started by Black Industries over ten years ago. Hasbro and Avalon Hill Games announce the new Age of Annihilation expansion pack for the long-dormant cult classic tabletop title Heroscape. Debuted and distributed by Milton Bradley in 2004, Heroscape was a sort of scaled-down take on wargaming that appealed particularly to younger audiences. Discontinued in 2010, it was recently announced that Heroscape will return in the near future with the Heroscape: Age of Annihilation expansion.

We also review the results of the 2021 Ennies. Thirsty Sword Lesbians took both Product of the Year and Best Games. The path to Middle-earth will soon open for new adventurers.

Free League is thrilled to reveal that the acclaimed second edition of The One Ring™ roleplaying game is coming soon in a 5E adaptation, entitled The Lord of the Rings™ Roleplaying. The Weekly LIVE 151 – GenCon 2022 Harrassment, Spice Dao Sells, Dragonbane RPG, Warmachine MkIV and Wicked Ones Offset Print Kickstarter

Reports from GenCon 2022 of harassment of PoC and LGBTQ+ attendees lead people to think that personal info had been leaked by organizers. The harassing messages were in the form of text messages and phone calls. GenCon stated that they only contact attendees by e-mail. This is an unfortunate situation after having the convention canceled two years in a row due to the pandemic.

SpiceDAO, the crypto fan group that purchased a copy of the Jodorowsky’s Dune production bible for a ridiculous amount of money, is no more. Spice Club is the new and much poorer iteration. They are looking for a buyer for the book and are making NFTs with Frank Miller. None of this makes any damn sense.

Dragons and Demons (Drakar och Demoner) is finally being released in English by Free League. This is just in time for the 40th anniversary of its first appearance in Sweden. It will be called Dragonbane and the project will be on Kickstarter. The announcement also hinted at an updated version of the rules. Now we know what happened to the rights with the IP sale that RiotMinds recently announced. Better late than never?

Privateer Press is bringing us a new version of Warmachine. Warmachine MkIV will also fold in the Hordes setting as well. It will feature and streamlining of the rules set and new miniatures. The miniatures will be 3D printed in-house, possibly SioCast, which may help the international market. If and when they set up foreign production. Are you excited for a miniatures game that only existed because Games Workshop was so incompetent? Or will is all forgiven for their distribution problems with MkIII? And last, but not least,

Wicked Ones is returning to Kickstarter for an off-set printed edition and new standalone expansion called Undead Awakening. The game uses the Forged in the Dark system and features excellent artwork. We hope to soon get an interview with Ben Nielson from Bandit Camp about the project and the origin of this popular game. Games Workshop has announced with a switcheroo April Fools joke that Squats will be returning to the Warhammer 40k setting. Now called the very trademarkable Leagues Of Votann, these space dwarf miniatures look a bit more generic than their original incarnation. This crosses off another longtime fan request following plastic Sisters of Battle from a fews years back.

Mongoose Publishing will be Kickstarting a new tabletop RPG called Shield Maidens. This original setting will combine Norse mythology with Cyberpunk elements. Players take the role of high technology cyberpunk armor and weaponry equipped women warriors as the Fenrir empire spread, the supply of Ymir’s Blood begins to dwindle and the Ragnarok approaches. The most difficult question to answer is will you play Viking Metal or Synthwave during your gaming session? Maybe both?

Disappointingly, the official Blade Runner TTRPG by Free League will be crowdfunding on Kickstarter this May. This contradicts their approach with the Alien RPG releasing the game directly to retail preorder. We are sure they have their reasons and hopefully the campaign will lead to a larger release than direct to retail would allow. Following The One Ring Second Edition, it is yet another IP that should have a built-in audience that would support it without crowdfunding. Let’s hope it is the best decision and not the beginning of a good publisher starting to lean too heavily on licensed IPs.

Free League and Titans Books will collaborate to publish three original novels that are tied into the AlienRPG campaign storylines. This project will be supervised by Andrew EC Gaska the writer of the Alien RPG campaigns. The original Dungeons and Dragons Gold Box games from the 1980s are returning to PC. Relive these classic early PCRPG adventures and their old school settings originally by SSI. Emanoel Melo’s Cyberpunk TTRPG uses a minimalist version of the acclaimed Forged In The Dark system to encourage cinematic action and a spiraling series of consequences and is now on Kickstarter to produce a physical edition. Kickstarter sets a new record for tabletop projects funded in 2021. Plus they are hiring for their community advisory council.

We look back at the year that almost was… 2021. The Weekly began livestreaming. The Dune movie was actually released to join its supporting 2d20 rpg and boardgames. Warmaster let us play 15mm Warhammer Fantasy. 3D printing should us the possibilities of miniature agnostic gaming. We began pursuit of the Lich Lord in Frostgrave. Magic the Gathering pulls us back in via the Forgotten Realms. The newest incarnation of TSR kept us entertained and spawned our As the Gygax Turns segments. The Embracer Group showed its bottomless appetite for not only video game studios. What will 2022 bring?

TSR is back! Again? Which one? They have started an IndieGoGo campaign to assist them in suing Wizards of the Coast for libel and slander, mostly concerning the disclaimer that has been added to legacy products. Cortex Prime, owned by Fandom has released the license details for fans interested in developing mods, etc. for the game. The fans are not happy. The agreement appears to give ownership of all free materials developed to Fandom. New expansion for Vaesen by Free League lets players leave the Nordic setting and explore folklore monsters in Britain and Ireland. EN Publishing loses the 200AD license and holds an enormous flash sale of all remaining stock. Forged in the Dark Bundle of Holding give you 4 RPGs using the system, including the original Blades in the Dark designed by John Harper and published by Evil Hat Productions , for only $10. Quite a deal if you have never tried the system and setting.

Creators of Dragonlance are developing a new setting called Skyraiders of Abarax. Tracy and Laura Hickman are xreating the awtting using athe 5E SRD and their unique “Living Tome System”. This follows their dropped lawsuit with Wizards of the Coast for non-payment and contract violations. Into the Odd by Chris McDowall is getting a remaster by Free League on Kickstarter. SideQuest hopes to relieve the congestion of ZineQuest and let more creators creating zine based RPGs get attention. Cabinet Group, the rights holder of Conan the Barbarian, Mutant Year Zero and Solomon Kane are being acquired by Norway’s Funcom, develops of the first Conan MMORPG.
