As if they listened to last week’s episode, Warner Bros. defends their film right for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. This contradicts the report that the Saul Zaentz Company is meeting with potential buyers. Both parties have ben in meditation for some time concerning profits of the Peter Jackson films. Roll20 gets a new CEO, former Google Exec, Ankit Lal who promises a very deep focus on our users and publishers. Has all their success during the pandemic spoiled them? Do we want on virtual tabletop to pick winners and losers among published titles? Kickstarter announced their are exploring the use of blockchain technology with hopes that it will open access to crowdfunding to countries that were previously excluded. They also recently said they won’t allow NFTs on its blockchain protocol. Modiphius is releasing a incredibly luxurious limited edition of the Dune Imperial Limited Edition core rulebook. A classic roleplaying game returns. The new retro-apocalypotic edition of Twilight: 2000, published in partnership with Game Designers’ Workshop, goes back to the roots of the franchise with a boxed set for sandbox roleplaying in the devastation of World War III. The new edition will be the fourth in the series, the first being released by GDW in 1984. Just like the original version, the new edition is set in a year 2000 devastated by war – now in an alternate timeline where the Moscow Coup of 1991 succeeded and the Soviet Union never collapsed.

Nibiru is a science fiction tabletop role playing game set in an ominous space station. It’s focused around the themes of memory, nature and artificiality, and features a rich world (inspired by Ancient Mesopotamia) as well as a quick-to-learn system that builds each player’s persona based on the retelling of their pasts. Nibiru is a space station submerged in the ocean of debris orbiting the Star of Fomalhaut. Cyberpunk Red will have a skirmish miniatures game called Combat Zone produced by Monster Fight Club. This is the same company that produced the miniatures for the Cyberpunk Red tabletop game previously. We review the list of best selling “other” (non-5E) TTPRG titles on DriveThruRPG in 2020. The results may surprise you. Finally, we discuss the baggage of the Cyberpunk genre, more specifically the portrayal of Asian culture and stereotypes. There is also a Cyberpunk by Asians Game Jam currently running on Itch.io that may also bring new perspectives to the genre. “Western cyberpunk media borrows heavily from Asian visuals and fetishizes Asian culture, without the involvement of actual Asians.
