Wargames Atlantic’s CEO, Hudson Adams, has revealed his true identity as Tony Reidy, a figure previously associated with two troubled miniature wargames companies, Wargames Factory and Defiance Games. Reidy founded Wargames Factory in 2007/8 with the goal of producing hard plastic figures faster and cheaper using an all-digital tooling process. However, the company faced numerous challenges, including quality issues, delays, and a problematic deal with a Chinese factory owner who eventually took control and rebranded the company. After years of working to pay down debts and process the past, Reidy, under the new identity of Hudson Adams, founded Wargames Atlantic in 2018. His motivation was to build a successful company and, eventually, to make good on the failed Defiance Games Kickstarter. Now, after six years of Wargames Atlantic’s operation, Reidy has announced that the company is in a position to refund the original Defiance Games Kickstarter backers.

Steamforged Games is releasing a new Warmachine Core Book, available for pre-order at $44.99 and releasing on December 11, 2025. This 140+ page hardback includes rules, lore, and artwork for the Iron Kingdoms setting. There are also free Quick Start Guides, Rules-Only PDFs, and a Warmachine App available.

The Avatar Legends 20th Anniversary Humble Bundle offers physical items for the Avatar Legends RPG, including a starter set, dice pack, cloth map, dice bag, GM screen, and journal pack for $49. The bundle celebrates the 20th anniversary of Avatar: The Last Airbender and benefits charity.

Mantic Digital has announced an upcoming Digital Campaign for Epic Warpath, revealing that STL files for core troops will now be available to backers. Previous STL backers will receive a special discounted bundle for extra files at £5/army. The Warpath Universe is a sci-fi setting where factions battle across galaxies, and this digital STL campaign aims to empower players to build and print their armies at a grand scale.

The Gygax Memorial Fund is launching a Kickstarter on October 1st, 2025, to raise $150,000 for a memorial game table in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, honoring Gary Gygax, one of the co-creators of Dungeons & Dragons. The memorial will feature a bronze map of Gygax’s first ever D&D dungeon level, scaled for use with miniatures. Higher pledge levels include a bronze ‘throne’ and a statue of Gary Gygax himself. The Gygax Memorial Fund, Inc., a non-profit organization founded by Gary’s widow, Gail Gygax, received land for the memorial in 2024, during the 50th anniversary year of the game.

Melsonian Arts Council (creators of Troika and Longshot City) has announced a move away from crowdfunding platforms to a pre-order system on their website. They describe the Kickstarter/Backerkit/ETC experience as stressful, excessively time consuming, and broadly demoralising, hindering their goal of making books faster. This DIY Crowdfunding approach, starting September 4, 2025, aims to crowdfund our own books, on our own shop, on our own schedule. They view modern crowdfunding as glorified pre-orders and state they will absolutely still make these books if we don’t hit our funding goal. Pre-ordered books are cheaper! and supporters may receive fancy extras. The first two projects, Witch-War to the Vale of Forbiddiction and Beyond and The Perilous Pear & Plum Pies of Pudwick, are expected to ship around January 2026.

Of Oil and Iron is a 3D-printable, Print-and Play dieselpunk mecha skirmish wargame set in the war-torn, resource-starved Smoglands where towering Rig-manufacturing corporations have grown so vast, they’ve swallowed the nations that once governed them. Scott, the solo developer behind this project, has poured his heart into sculpting miniatures, writing lore, and designing mechanics. This Kickstarter is digital only, providing resin pre-supported 3D files in both 15mm and 32mm scale. Players Build Your Rigs by choosing from Light, Medium, Heavy, Colossal chassis and customize them with weapons and equipment. The game features Rig Control Terminal, Weapon Cards and Equipment Cards, and mechanics like Manage Your Engine Heat and React and Counter. The digital rulebook offers Core Rules, Lore about the Smoglands, Lore and rules for each faction, Short stories, and a Campaign system. Backers will receive access to the beta version of the rules.

Kings of War 4th Edition, with rules written by Alessio Cavatore, is set to launch in December 2025. The primary goals are refine and modernise the rules, introduce new tactical depth, and improve clarity. To enhance Clarity and Accessibility, the rulebook is split into core rules and advanced rules. Streamlining and Standardisation efforts include changes to Unit Sizes (Large Infantry and Cavalry now use Troops and Regiments), Hero Bases (all Infantry, Heavy Infantry, and Cavalry Heroes now use 40mm or 50mm bases), and a Single Nerve Value. Traits Replace Keywords for clearer and more meaningful interactions. Unit Positioning now uses a defined centre-point and facing-points. Special Rules and Hero Behaviour have been updated, and extensive Playtesting and Community Feedback have shaped the new edition.

Free League Publishing’s Dragonbane TTRPG is getting a new miniatures collection through a Kickstarter campaign by Titan Forge. The Northern Beasts miniatures sets will feature heroes and adversaries from the Dragonbane Core Set and Bestiary, with each set including original mini-adventures. The miniatures are noted for their high detail and quality, with the Demons Set being particularly impressive. Dragonbane itself is a modern re-imagining of the 1982 Scandinavian game Drakar och Demoner, offering a gritty, Nordic fantasy experience with a retro Saturday morning cartoon vibe.

Jess Lanzillo, former VP of franchise and product for D&D, has joined White Wolf as creative director for World of Darkness after leaving Wizards of the Coast. This follows the departure of other senior D&D figures like Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford. The exodus from D&D comes amid broader struggles at Hasbro, including massive layoffs, failed product launches, and the loss of key talent who helped make projects like Baldur’s Gate 3 successful.

The Diamond Comic Distributors bankruptcy has revealed a complex auction process filled with controversy. Alliance Entertainment (AENT) initially won the auction with a bid over $70 million, but Diamond rejected them in favor of backup bidders Universal Distribution and Ad Populum for approximately $2.5 million less. Court transcripts reveal the rejection came down to a one-hour delay in resolving a dispute over $4.3 million in prepaid inventory. AENT’s legal team claimed “the fix was in” and that they had agreed to all of Diamond’s demands, but Diamond proceeded with the backup bidders anyway. Wizards of the Coast has announced Heroes of the Borderlands, a new Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set launching September 16, 2025, for $49.99. This comprehensive set is designed for the updated 2024-2025 D&D rules and includes everything needed for new players to start playing immediately. The box contains 40-60 hours of gameplay content, including three adventure booklets, over 200 game cards, 18 maps, 200+ tokens, an 11-die set, and guides for both players and Dungeon Masters. Critical Role Productions has made a significant power play by hiring Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford, two of the most influential designers behind Dungeons & Dragons’ 5th edition success. Both served as creative director and game director respectively at Wizards of the Coast for decades before departing in April 2025. Their recruitment to Critical Role’s Darrington Press division represents a major shift in the tabletop RPG landscape, coming just weeks after Darrington Press launched Daggerheart, their own alternative to D&D. Galactic & Going Rogue combines two beloved space rebellion RPGs into a single hardcover third edition, drawing inspiration from Star Wars, Rogue One, and Andor. The games focus on rebels fighting against a fascist galactic empire called The Mandate as part of The Liberation. Galactic tells stories of charming but flawed heroes and their relationships, while Going Rogue explores darker themes where characters are fated to make ultimate sacrifices for freedom. Both games use the GM-less Belonging Outside Belonging system with innovative mechanics including “pillars” that represent setting aspects and token-based gameplay.

Defy the Gods is a sword and sorcery RPG set in fantasy ancient Mesopotamia that queers the genre by centering romance and resistance. Players take on roles like Revenants, Sailors, Sorcerers, and other archetypes while building their own world of gods, cities, and wilderness. The game features a unique three-tier success system where rolling too high can be dangerous, and characters risk losing their humanity as they gain power through “Epithets” that can transform into “Dooms.” Romance serves as both protection and vulnerability, with emotional connections being key to survival against hostile world forces including pantheons of gods and oppressive cities. The campaign was successfully funded and includes stretch goals for additional content.

Paradox Interactive announced the revival of the White Wolf brand as the official licensing and publishing entity for World of Darkness properties including Vampire: The Masquerade. This marks a return for the influential brand that was shuttered in 2018 following controversy over insensitive content. Led by veterans including Jason Carl, the revived White Wolf aims to unify its transmedia properties and develop both classic and new IPs with a clearer long-term vision, representing another significant shift in how major gaming properties are managed and developed.

Free League Publishing has launched a successful Kickstarter campaign for two new supplements to their award-winning Dragonbane fantasy RPG. The campaign features “Arkand: City of Waves and Flames,” which introduces players to a seaside city setting with over a dozen adventure sites, complete with a full-color map. The second supplement, “Book of Magic,” adds new schools of magic including harmonism, demonology, necromancy, witchcraft, and illusionism, along with additional spells for existing magical schools. The campaign has already raised over $455,000, far exceeding its initial $26,064 goal with 21 days remaining.

Wizkids recently released pre-painted miniatures of the Baldur’s Gate 3 characters in partnership with Wizards of the Coast, and the results were catastrophically poor. Stonemaier Games, a major US-based tabletop game publisher known for hits like Wingspan and Scythe, has joined a lawsuit against former President Donald Trump in response to new US tariffs on Chinese imports. These tariffs, which have soared to 145%, are dramatically impacting the board game industry, which heavily relies on Chinese manufacturing. Stonemaier’s president, Jamey Stegmaier, explained that the company faces nearly $1.5 million in upcoming tariff costs on pre-produced inventory. With no grace period for goods already in production, the publisher is now storing stock in China and selectively shipping to the US to avoid unsustainable costs, while also encouraging other affected companies to join the lawsuit.

The tariffs have already led to significant disruptions within the industry, including layoffs and halted operations. Greater Than Games, another respected publisher behind Spirit Island and Sentinels of the Multiverse, has been forced to reduce staff and suspend all new projects due to the rising costs. Parent company Flat River Group cited “economic pressures” as the reason, and although in-stock products remain available, the company’s future projects—many crowdfunded and long-awaited—are now uncertain. Industry insiders warn that these tariffs could deal a blow worse than COVID-19, threatening the survival of small publishers and disrupting supply chains across the US tabletop gaming community.

Evil Hat Productions has announced the launch of a crowdfunding campaign to produce a print edition of Blades in the Dark: Deep Cuts, an expansion to the popular indie tabletop RPG created by John Harper. Previously released in digital form, Deep Cuts introduces a wealth of new material to enrich the game’s setting, Doskvol. It features 27 new factions, over 100 background and heritage packages, technological innovations, and the introduction of “Catalysts”—campaign-altering events. It also updates core mechanics, offering a streamlined advancement system, alternative action mechanics, and new rules for downtime and harm, making it a robust “director’s cut” of the original game.

The Heroes of Might and Magic TTRPG distinguishes itself in the crowded fantasy RPG space by focusing on epic, large-scale battles where players act as commanders of armies. Set in the iconic world of Enroth, the game adapts the 2d20 system and includes dramatic campaigns like “The Restoration of Erathia.”

Kickstarter recently suspended Don Simpson’s crowdfunding campaign for Megaton Man: Multimensions, a 214-page comic anthology, due to the inclusion of four pages by Iranian artist Milo Trent—sparking outrage from creators and supporters. Simpson, a veteran of the indie comics scene, refused to remove Trent’s work, criticizing Kickstarter’s vague and unaccountable policies, which appeared to reject the project based solely on Trent’s nationality. Despite the project’s diverse and celebrated lineup, which includes major names like Alan Davis and Stephen Bissette, and its readiness for publication through Cosmic Lion, Kickstarter cited “safety and trust” concerns without clear guidance or opportunity for appeal. Contributors and colleagues have condemned the decision as censorship and discrimination, with many rallying behind Simpson and seeking alternative funding platforms. The incident highlights growing concerns about algorithmic overreach and opaque decision-making by major crowdfunding platforms.
