The Weekly Podcast no.331 – Feywyn RPG, Draw Steel VTT, Groupfinder Data and Breathless: Frightmare Edition

Feywyn RPG, a new fantasy setting and game from RiotMinds, is an Arthurian-inspired dark fantasy tabletop RPG that blends Celtic myth with mist-shrouded folklore. Set in a land where the boundary between the mortal and spirit realms is thin, the game challenges players to resist the encroaching Mist and fight supernatural threats. The core mechanic involves rolling a d20 and adding an attribute to meet a Challenge Value, with character consequences accumulating through Wounds (physical danger) and Fear (supernatural terror). A beta version of the Feywyn Digital Companion has also been released, providing a VTT, character creation tools, a dice roller, and a bestiary.

The Draw Steel Codex VTT is a new online tool and virtual tabletop for Draw Steel, the action-oriented fantasy RPG from MCDM, which prioritizes “heroic action over complex mechanics”. Available in Early Access for $19.99, the Codex includes all core rules from Draw Steel: Heroes and Draw Steel: Monsters, as well as “The Delian Tomb – Start Here Adventure” to help parties begin playing quickly. Key features of the VTT include tools for building or importing custom maps with dynamic lighting and multiple levels, along with the ability for each player to create custom characters, profile icons, and battle soundtracks. The VTT is designed to be suitable for both new and seasoned players, optimally supporting a Director with 3–6 players, and requires a 64-bit processor and 8 GB of RAM.

Rascal News looked at Groupfinder Data, which analyzes the current looking-for-group (LFG) landscape in the TTRPG community. The data from April 2026 confirms that Dungeons & Dragons remains the industry behemoth, accounting for approximately 60% of groups and 90% of player posts on the platform. However, when D&D data is excluded, a varied and thriving ecosystem of alternative systems is visible. The most popular non-D&D systems listed are Pathfinder, Daggerheart, Call of Cthulhu, Vampire: The Masquerade, and Cyberpunk RED.

Breathless: Frightmare Edition is a major update and expansion of the original 2022 two-page zombie survival TTRPG written by Rene-Pier Deshaies, now published by Mythworks. The original game gained notoriety for its mechanics that used diminishing dice to reflect tension and scarcity in a zombie-infested world, with over 350 other games or hacks using its core rules. This updated version is being released as part of Mythworks’ new STORYPAK line, which aims to lower the barrier to entry for TTRPGs by creating games that are simple and lightweight. Designed with a 90s slasher-horror/VHS aesthetic, Frightmare Edition is packaged in a cassette container holding 12 pamphlets, which include updated rules, tools for generating zombie dangers, and four adventures, allowing the game to be run as one-shots or longer 6-12 session campaigns

The Weekly Podcast no.330 – Epic Warpath New Factions, CMON Returns, Free League Licensing and Fomoria RPG

Mantic Games is currently taking pre-orders for two new 10mm armies for the Epic Warpath sci-fi wargame: the Veer-Myn and the Marauders. The Marauder Core Army, provided in high-detailed plastic, brings infantry and armored vehicles like Hammer Assault Tanks, while resin Marauder Reinforcements add heavy firepower, air support, and the massive Wolfcrawler Mech. Similarly, the Veer-Myn Core Army includes burrowing units like Stalkers and Tunnelers, built from ramshackle technology. Veer-Myn Reinforcements add monstrous units such as Brood Guard and Night Terrors, along with the large, weapon-bristling Technonest miniature.

Financially-troubled publisher CMON plans to resume crowdfunding activities in the second half of 2026, following annual losses that soared to $19.9 million in 2025. This recent loss contributed to $23 million in losses across 2024 and 2025, prompting an independent auditor to question the company’s ability to continue as a “going concern”. CMON’s directors maintain that the company is sustainable, citing financial support from directors and proceeds from the sale of its Singapore office and a recent share sale. The company’s liabilities are largely due to eight undelivered crowdfunding campaigns—including DC Super Heroes United and DCeased, now slated for Q4 2026—and five undelivered pre-order campaigns. CMON’s new strategy focuses on reducing large-scale crowdfunding exposure, pivoting toward growth in the Asian market, and maintaining a streamlined operation with a reduced headcount.

Free League announced an expansion of its Free Tabletop License (FTL) to cover five of its core role-playing games: Dragonbane, Forbidden Lands, Symbaroum, Coriolis: the Great Dark, and Coriolis: The Third Horizon. This royalty-free, irrevocable open game license permits third-party creators to publish their own adventures and supplements for these titles. Free League stated that this move will benefit the longevity and popularity of the games and the broader community. Furthermore, the expanded license supports third-party publication not just in English, but also in several other languages, including French, German, Italian, Spanish, Polish, and Portuguese.

Free League Workshop also announced Fomoria RPG, an upcoming folk horror game created in partnership with award-winning designers Tania Herrero and Johan Nohr, the co-creator of MORK BORG. Described as a game of “epic horror,” Fomoria is set in a dark, subterranean world where the sun is a myth and players navigate the “living, breathing labyrinth of shifting tunnels” known as the Strata. The game uses a modified MORK BORG engine and offers options for players to take on the role of subterranean creatures in a world “built of monsters and bones”. The Kickstarter campaign is set to launch soon, but a Quickstart set of rules is currently available, including pre-generated characters and an introductory adventure.

The Weekly Podcast no.327 – No More Citadel, Wolfenstein RPG, More HATE and LowLife RPG

The rebranding of Games Workshop’s paint line is happening. Citadel Colour is being phased out and renamed Warhammer Colour. This change is purely for brand alignment, particularly to aid newcomers, as the paint formulas—including Base, Layers, Shades, Technical, and Contrast paints—and pot sizes will remain exactly the same, only with updated branding appearing in stores over the coming months.

Wolfenstein TTRPG (Tabletop Roleplaying Game) is coming from Modiphius. The game will adapt the popular video game IP, specifically focusing on the storylines from Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein: The New Colossus. Modiphius, which has a pre-existing relationship with Bethesda for Fallout and Elder Scrolls games, will utilize its 2d20 system for the RPG. The crowdfunding campaign for the game is set to launch on GameFound in Fall 2026, with a sign-up page available for interested parties to follow.

HATE is based on the Chronicles of Hate, a dark fantasy graphic novel series by artist Adrian Smith, known for its intense and visceral artwork. The miniatures being promoted originate from the iconic HATE Board Game, which is centered on brutal combat and conquest. The files are being produced by TitanForge and will be available as STL files.

LowLife is the long-awaited TTRPG based on the DUNGEON DEGENERATES board game, designed to allow players to delve deeper into the degeneracy and world of Würstreich than the board game permits.

Sean Aaberg, the creator, describes it as a “chaotic narrative experience” and an “RPG for people who hate the ‘noble hero’ tropes.” The creator aims to make LowLife their most successful Kickstarter yet, encouraging readers to share the sign-up page and promote the project, which has been in development for decades. The project is described as Grand Theft Auto meets Game of Thrones, and a preview PRIMER E-ZINE with sneak peeks at the character sheet, hex map, and monsters is exclusively available for sign-ups.

The Weekly LIVE 200 – FTC Warns Tabletop Creators, Critical Role Deletes Player, Horror on the Orient Express Boardgame and Gloomhaven Grand Festival Ends

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has warned board game reviewers and influencers about the importance of properly disclosing their relationships and any free products they receive from companies. Failure to disclose such information could be considered an “unfair or deceptive” act, leading to potential court action. The FTC’s updated guidance extends to online influencers on various social media platforms, emphasizing the need for clear disclosure, even if they are not explicitly asked to mention the products. This applies to content creators showcasing board games on social media or in videos, as these actions could imply endorsement without using words.

Critical Role, a popular gaming company known for introducing people to tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons, has removed numerous videos from its YouTube channel. Most of these videos featured Brian Foster, the former host of the series “Talks Machina,” where cast members were interviewed after each episode. The removal comes after leaked court documents revealed instances of verbal abuse and threats against main cast member Ashley Johnson during her engagement with Foster. Additionally, videos featuring Foster hosting “Behind the Sheets” and participating in other shows have also been taken down, except for one episode of “Honey Heist,” which can still be found on Geek & Sundry’s YouTube channel.

The Gloomhaven Grand Festival has finished by raising $5,053,380 with 34,691 backers It included Gloomhaven: Buttons & Bugs, Gloomhaven: The Role Playing Game, Miniatures of Gloomhaven, Gloomhaven: Second Edition and was run on Backerkit. The campaign contained no exclusive offerings eliminating FOMO and allowing their $1 pledge to give people time to decide.

“Horror on the Orient Express,” a famous campaign for the Lovecraftian RPG “Call of Cthulhu,” is being transformed into a cooperative board game. Designed by Adam Kwapiński and Michał Gołąb Gołębiowski, creators of “Nemesis” and “Frostpunk: The Board Game,” respectively, the board game will follow the 1991 Call of Cthulhu adventure set aboard a train during the 1920s. Players act as investigators navigating through the eerie Dreamlands, encountering cosmic horrors and cultists. The game offers a complete RPG-like experience, allowing players to customize and progress their characters, gather clues, interrogate passengers, and protect the train from monstrous threats. The board game is described as “challenging” and will be launched through a Kickstarter campaign in the first half of the following year, with an expected release in 2025. A prototype will be showcased at the upcoming Gen Con convention in the US.
