Cyberpunk Edgerunners: Combat Zone Miniatures Game is inspired by the animated series “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” this miniatures game by Monster Fight Club, R. Talsorian Games, and CD Projekt Red offers fast-paced skirmishes in Night City. The game utilizes Monster Fight Club’s [RE]action game engine for responsive gameplay, allowing characters to act dynamically without rigid turn structures.

Players can choose between embodying the Edgerunners or the Arasaka Corporation’s cyber-enhanced suits, each with distinct abilities. The starter box includes figures, cards, a game board, terrain, and various components for gameplay customization. The game’s release date is yet to be announced.

Humble Bundle launches the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay: The Enemy Within Humble Bundle. Cubicle 7’s remastered five-part campaign “The Enemy Within” is offered in a Humble Bundle, along with other Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay materials. A portion of the proceeds from the bundle supports Children’s Health Ireland. The bundle includes various books and adventures, offering an extensive library for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay enthusiasts. The complete bundle is valued at $288, with a minimum US$1 to get the Starter Set.

LEGO reveals its first Dungeons & Dragons set, the “D&D Red Dragon’s Tale,” developed in collaboration with Wizards of the Coast. The set features a tavern, dungeon, tower, and a buildable red dragon named Cinderhowl, along with six LEGO minifigures and other brick-built monsters. Wizards of the Coast provides a bespoke adventure for the set, available for LEGO Insiders as a free digital download. The set will be priced at $359.99 and released on April 4, 2024, with pre-orders expected to open soon. 

The 2nd Edition of Free League’s Sci-Fi RPG Coriolis, titled The Great Dark, was launched on Kickstarter and achieved rapid success, reaching its funding goal within seven minutes. The game promises a fresh take on space exploration, featuring enigmatic ruins, ancient gods, and dangers lurking in the depths of outer space. Players take on the role of explorers venturing into the Great Dark, facing challenges like the cataclysmic Blight while seeking artifacts and knowledge to save their home, Ship City. The game draws inspiration from 19th-century polar expeditions, deep-sea diving, and pulp archaeology, emphasizing mystery, wonder, and stunning visuals. The rule system is based on the acclaimed Year Zero Engine, offering mechanics for character generation, combat, exploration, and expeditions. The Kickstarter campaign also offers a boxed campaign setting, The Flowers of Algorab, and various exclusive backer rewards. 

The passing of RPG legend James M. Ward, known for his contributions to Dungeons & Dragons, Metamorphosis Alpha, and other seminal games, was announced, marking a significant loss for the RPG community.

The Weekly LIVE 226 – Evil Genius v. Netflix, The Old World RPG, Fall of the Imperium and Guildball Print&Play

Evil Genius Games and Netflix have reached an amicable resolution regarding the canceled Rebel Moon roleplaying game. The lawsuit, which involved a breach of contract claim by Evil Genius Games after Netflix terminated their license, has been settled without disclosing details. Despite the resolution, the Rebel Moon game will not be released. Netflix expressed gratitude for Evil Genius’ work, and the latter assured fans of upcoming cinematic adventures and a new sci-fi project. Retailers who preordered the game will receive information on processing refunds.

 

Warhammer: The Old World, recently relaunched by Games Workshop, will have a tabletop RPG adaptation by Cubicle 7. While details about the RPG are pending approval, it is expected to explore a new era in the Warhammer universe. Cubicle 7 plans to support both Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th Edition and the new Old World RPG. The lack of concrete information has left fans curious about the differences between the two game systems.

 

To coincide with the release of Dune: Part 2 in cinemas, Modiphius Entertainment is offering the pre-order for Dune: Fall of the Imperium, a campaign book for the Dune: Adventures in the Imperium roleplaying game. The book follows the events of Frank Herbert’s Dune and lets players experience the rise of Muad’Dib and the fall of the Imperium. The campaign is divided into four acts, each with three adventures, providing players with choices that impact their House’s fate.

 

Guild Ball, a fantasy football miniatures game by Steamforged Games, is making a return in the form of officially sanctioned print-on-demand files. Steamforged will release updated rules for free, and players can use STL files to print their own copies of the game components, including teams and terrain. The decision to support Guild Ball again comes after the game’s cancellation in 2020 due to reasons including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and a shift in gameplay style in the competitive scene. The files will be available on Steamforged’s website soon.

The Fantasy AGE Core Rulebook will introduce the game’s second edition when Green Ronin Publishing releases it next month.

Paizo runs out of  core rulebooks until April 2023 after being bombarded with Weeks’ Worth of Orders During OGL 1.1 Battle.

Kobold Press thanks Wizards of the Coast for listening to the community and responding by releasing the SRD 5.1 into Creative Commons. This change ensures that 5E remains available to everyone, including Kobold Press.First, Project Black Flag is going forward. Their timeline is unchanged. The first phase of playtesting releases at the end of February 2023. 

Cubicle 7 are developing an upcoming tabletop RPG called Broken Weave, which will contain an early look at their newly developed rules system – C7d20, which will be compatible with Dungeons & Dragons 5E, or rather that edition’s System Reference Document (SRD) 5.1 that Wizards of the Coast released under a Creative Commons license. 

Goodman Games announced that January 2023 was the best sales month in its two-decade history. Sales through the Goodman Games online store reached an all-time high, exceeding even prior Black Friday and holiday special events, while other channels saw similar growth. Dungeon Crawl Classics core rulebooks moved at a brisk pace throughout the month, as several accessories and adventure modules sold out.

 Gamefound fell short of its goals in 2022, but still ate into Kickstarter’s lead in tabletop.

Marcin Świerkot, founder of the upstart crowdfunding platform Gamefound, set an ambitious goal for his company in 2022. He and his team hoped to bring in $67.5 million — 25% of competitor Kickstarter’s revenue from tabletop projects in 2021. In the end, he fell well short of that goal. The Poland-based Gamefound increased its revenue more than 45% last year, earning just $28.3 million for new projects.

Cubicle 7 is excited to announce a new Warhammer 40,000 roleplaying game! Imperium Maledictum is the spiritual successor to the beloved series of roleplaying games started by Black Industries over ten years ago. Imperium Maledictum is a d100 based system for roleplaying in the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, and builds on previous Warhammer 40,000 d100 roleplaying games, as well as Cubicle 7’s own award-winning Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 4th Edition.

Hasbro and Avalon Hill Games announce the new Age of Annihilation expansion pack for the long-dormant cult classic tabletop title Heroscape. Debuted and distributed by Milton Bradley in 2004, Heroscape was a sort of scaled-down take on wargaming that appealed particularly to younger audiences. Discontinued in 2010, it was recently announced that Heroscape will return in the near future with the Heroscape: Age of Annihilation expansion.

We also review the results of the 2021 Ennies. Thirsty Sword Lesbians took both Product of the Year and Best Games. The path to Middle-earth will soon open for new adventurers.

Free League is thrilled to reveal that the acclaimed second edition of The One Ring™ roleplaying game is coming soon in a 5E adaptation, entitled The Lord of the Rings™ Roleplaying. The new edition of The One Ring™ RPG, set in the world of The Lord of the Rings™ by J.R.R. Tolkien and designed by Francesco Nepitello and Marco Maggi, became the most successful tabletop roleplaying core game ever on Kickstarter when it ended March 4, 2021. Now the time has come to open Middle-earth for even more roleplayers with a brand new 5E adaptation.

WotC is playtesting Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos, based on the Magic: The Gathering cars set and stinking of Hogwarts. Finally, comicbook publisher, Magnetic Press, is getting into game publishing. They are planning releases to support their comics series, starting with Carbon Grey.
