Chris was not available making this week a solo show. First, I discuss the rebranding and name change from Idle Red Hands to Upturned Table. Mantic releases second edition public playtest rules for Firefight. Broken Tales by The World Anvil now has an English language quickstart in advance of their May Kickstarter campaign. The Ruins of Symbaroum for 5E is now on Kickstarter bringing the dark fantasy setting by Free League to the world’S greatest roleplaying game. Will it be a good thing for the game by broadening its audience?

The Weekly 071: Colonial Marines for Alien RPG, Quest RPG AP Tutorials and Character Preciousness

Free League is releasing the Colonial Marine Operations Manual. Featuring rules for Marines and guidelines for running a whole marine-centric campaign. Plus six missions to run written by Andrew E.C. Gaska and Paul Elliot. Also featuring the excellent artwork of Martin Grip from the core rulebook. The makers of Quest RPG are releasing actual play audio tutorials to help new players get a handle on the game and get up and running even without the physical rulebook. We also discuss the idea of the preciousness of player characters and how with all the investment now possible some players can’t stand to see their characters die.

The Weekly 065: Return of Heroquest, Honey & Hot Wax, Create for Mork Bork, 5E Racial Ability Rules Changes and the Year of Dune

Hasbro has revealed their plans to “reprint” Heroquest through their HasLab crowd-funding-like website. Honey & Hot Wax is an anthology of sex-positive roleplaying games. The collection of games varies from 2-player to games needing 6 to 12 players along with a facilitator or two. It is published by Pelgrane Press and was edited by Lucian Kahn and Sharang Biswas with a foreword by Naomi Clark of Consentacle. An open license for creating content for Mork Borg, the award-winning game published by Free League. The latest Adventurer’s League Guide contains new custom racial ability score rules. This gives us a preview of the new rules that Wizards of the Coast will be adding to 5E in the release of Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything coming soon. We lament the failure of 2020 as the year of Dune, with only the boardgame reprint being released while the Denis Villeneuve feature film and Modiphius 2d20 system will not be released until next year.

The Weekly 062: Twilight 2000, Green Ronin’s Sword Chronicle, Thousand Suns RPG, Visigoths vs. Mall Goths and DTRPG medals

Free League is developing a new version of Twilight 2000 that was funded on Kickstarter. It will be a boxed set and was developed in collaboration with Game Designer’s Workshop. The Chronicle system that powered Green Ronin’s A Song of Ice and Fire RPG will now be available as a setting neutral ruleset called Sword Chronicle. There were some minor to armor and intrigue, but it will play very similar to the first incarnation. Thousand Suns RPG by Grognardia Games and designed by James Maliszewski is worth a look if you are looking for a scfi system that was inspired by the “imperial” science fiction of the 1950s and 60s. It uses a 2d12 system called the 12 Degree system. Chris will play in a session of Visigoths vs. Mall Goths by Lucius Kahn @oh_theogony. Plus a quick explanation of what the medals awarded to DriveThru RPG sellers mean.

The Weekly 061: Hellboy RPG, Alexa Play Starfinder, 2020 Ennies, Star Trek 2d20, and Masters of the Universe RPG

Following the miniatures skirmish boardgame, Mantic is following up with a Hellboy TTPRG designed by Marc Langworthy of Red Scar Publishing. It will launch on Kickstarter and be powered by 5E of the World’s Greatest Role-playing Game. Amazon releases Starfinder audio game for Alexa. Featuring the voices of Nathan Fillion and Laura Bailey. GenCon Online releases the winners of the 2020 Ennie awards. Again this year Free League is a big winner with the Alien RPG and Mörk Borg. Thousand Year Old Vampire and Ironsworn Delve were also winners. As of this release, the Star Trek 2d20 Humble Bundle is now concluded, but the PDFs are available on DriveThruRPG and the free quickstart is on the Modiphius store. The Masters of the Universe going to be a pen and paper RPG power by Cortex Prime. Legends of Grayskull will be published in 2021 and will include a 250-page hardcover guidebook with pull-out maps, a digital companion, a community content creation and sharing platform, and an organized play program.

Mile High Comics of Denver, Colorado responds to DC Comics leaving Diamond Distribution. The core rules for the 9th edition of Warhammer 40k are released for free. Free League will be Kickstarting the new edition of Twilight 2000 later this year. CMON will now be publishing graphic novels based on their game properties, starting with Zombicide and Cthulhu: Death May Die. Never Going Home by WetiInk print on demand arriving soon. A new edition of Warhammer 40,000 is coming this year. We talk at length about it and its happy, not at all grimdark spot illustrations on the Games Workshop website. Xas Irkalla is a black metal hell with interesting mechanics and intense artwork. Nemesis Lockdown is a stand-alone expansion to Nemesis, the survival horror boardgame inspired by the Alien movies. The Wretched & Alone Game Jam gives you a chance to try survival horror mechanics, also inspired by Alien, with the setting of your choice.
