The Weekly Podcast no.343 – Chaosium v. AI, Warzone Eternal STLs, Singularity for Traveller and Strange Stories

Chaosium has re-released the free quickstart PDF for its new RPG, Time Without Tide, to remove unwanted AI-generated image descriptions that were automatically added by Adobe software without the publisher’s consent. This issue, which was also encountered by Evil Hat with their game Umdaar: Planet of Swords, Super-Science, and Sorcery, highlights growing industry opposition to AI-generated content in tabletop gaming, as many publishers continue to champion human creativity.

The miniature skirmish game Mutant Chronicles: Warzone Eternal is entering a new phase under Trans Atlantis Games. This initiative brings the title into the modern era with new STLs, free downloadable rules, and three new units, all of which are currently available on MyMiniFactory. The transition involves a partnership where Trans Atlantis Games takes over the ongoing publication and distribution of the game, aiming to expand its reach and support beyond a “boutique” release.

Mongoose Publishing has launched Singularity, an expansive 608-page mega-campaign for Traveller 2nd Edition. This three-book set, now available on DriveThruRPG, departs from traditional Traveller tropes by focusing on godlike alien intelligences and galaxy-shattering technology within a post-humanistic narrative. The campaign is designed for high-end play and challenges players to make impactful decisions that can fundamentally reshape the Traveller universe.

Strange Stories is an upcoming rules-light horror TTRPG developed by the team behind the HP Lovecraft Literary Podcast. Designed for single-session play, the system features pregenerated characters and an innovative audio adventure companion that allows the Story Guide to prepare for a session by listening to a short podcast. The game aims to be an accessible “gateway” experience, allowing groups, even those with no previous RPG experience, to start playing quickly with minimal setup.

Paizo is undergoing significant restructuring following a nearly $2 million financial loss in 2025, largely attributed to the bankruptcy of its former distributor, Diamond Comic Distributors. To manage the fallout, the company is laying off 12 employees, scaling back its organized play initiatives, and pausing Foundry VTT support for Pathfinder Society modules. While Paizo transitions its distribution to the Independent Publishers Group and works to recover book channel sales, it continues to focus on direct-to-consumer sales via its updated webstore.

The tabletop industry is grappling with the proliferation of generative AI, with tensions surfacing at the UK Games Expo 2026. Critics and attendees expressed deep disappointment over the convention’s lack of an official policy prohibiting AI-generated content, contrasting it with other conventions that have taken firm stances. In response, creators and vendors utilized “Human Made” signage on the convention floor as a grassroots effort to push back against the use of AI tools, which they argue diminish human creativity and threaten the livelihoods of freelancers and artists.

Meanwhile, Wizards of the Coast is signaling a shift in its technological approach, posting a vacancy for a senior AI engineer to develop customer-facing features, including systems for tutorials and NPC behaviors. This move coincides with Hasbro’s launch of “Sixth Wall,” a new AI studio focused on licensing company IP characters like Optimus Prime and Mr. Potato Head for interactive experiences. By utilizing its “CharacterOS” platform and real voice actors, Hasbro aims to provide authorized, guardrail-protected versions of its characters to mitigate the spread of unauthorized AI-generated content using its intellectual property.

In happier news for tabletop enthusiasts, Mongoose Publishing has released *The Infinity Suite*, a new 168-page campaign sourcebook for the *Traveller* RPG. The narrative centers on a band of interstellar rockstars who are heavily in debt and on the run from repo crews, forcing them to seek fame and inspiration across the Islands subsectors. The supplement introduces inventive mechanics to fit the rock ‘n’ roll theme, such as a Masterpiece System for song creation, a review system for music critics, Bass Battles, and Megastar Points to track the characters’ rise to fame.

MEKBORG and STEEL PSALM are two books that take the raw, old-school, d20-friendly rules of MÖRKBORG and dip them headfirst into post-apocalyptic, mechanical, MEK-KNIGHT mayhem, drawing inspiration from robot-on-robot combat, doom metal aesthetics, and more. Fight over the scraps of what little remains in an easy-to-learn campaign setting that puts aesthetics and mood before rules and crunch.

The companies that previously made Embracer’s games portfolio are also tasked with paying off its $1.5 billion debt. The company announced it is splitting into three separate entities: Asmodee, Coffee Stain & Friends, and Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends. Now, CEO Lars Wingefors claims it’s all part of a plan to eventually make good games and make money from them.

Free League announced a new tabletop miniatures game of skirmish combat today. Titled Mutant Year Zero: Zone Wars, and set in the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Mutant Year Zero, the game joins its lofty brethren Fallout: Wasteland Warfare and Fallout Factions in giving everyone, everywhere some kind of post-apocalyptic skirmish game to play.
