Creators of Dragonlance are developing a new setting called Skyraiders of Abarax. Tracy and Laura Hickman are xreating the awtting using athe 5E SRD and their unique “Living Tome System”. This follows their dropped lawsuit with Wizards of the Coast for non-payment and contract violations. Into the Odd by Chris McDowall is getting a remaster by Free League on Kickstarter. SideQuest hopes to relieve the congestion of ZineQuest and let more creators creating zine based RPGs get attention. Cabinet Group, the rights holder of Conan the Barbarian, Mutant Year Zero and Solomon Kane are being acquired by Norway’s Funcom, develops of the first Conan MMORPG. TSR released a press statement. Yes, the company that was resurrected, abandoned and them disappeared is back. What does this even mean? Before Dungeons and Dragons, Wizards of the Coast first published another fantasy RPG. Sales of Talislantia 3E funded the creation of Magic: The Gathering. The Weekly LIVE 095: TSR Museum and Distancing, Game Shipping Costs More and Dukk Borg

We discuss the Lake Geneva Dugeon Hobby Shop museum set to open, or at least get a new parking lot and curator. Also, the list of professionals and events that are distancing themselves from the new TSR grows. Cargo shipping rates are up 300 to 400 percent currently. This is putting pressure on board game companies to shoulder that expense if it is temporary or pass it on to the customers. Probably the likely move. The solution would be stop printing boardgames in China, but why would anyone do that? Finally, for an escape for the ugliness we take a look at Dukk Borg by Gem Room Games and Nerdy Paper Games. A Mork Borg compatible game that combines dark metal and DuckTales. Anything that celebrates death metal aesthetics and Carl Barks influenced duck characters is worth a look.

The Weekly LIVE 087: Quests of Yore, Jeff Goldblum AP, DisneyMustPay and D&D Filming

Another solo livestream, because these are times we live in. Chris will be back soon. In the meantime, I discuss the Quests of Yore TTRPG starter set based on the Disney/Pixar film, Onward. Quests of Yore: Barley’s Edition is a boxed set that contains everything you need to play this original game as seen in the movie. Jeff Goldblum is playing an elf sorcerer in an actual play series called, Dark Dice. The production values seem high, but will this celebrity voice add to the experience? Writers and Artists guilds untie to #MakeDisneyPay following the settlement with Alan Dean Foster and his missing royalty payments. And finally, the Dungeons and Dragons movie reboot begins filming, aiming for a spring 2023 release. We have heard the cast, but have no idea about the script. Can Hugh Grant chew the scenery as well as Jeremy Irons? Find out in a few years.

Games Workshop licensing is now open to proposals for merchandise using the Warhammer IP. This includes crowdfunding those projects on Kickstarter. The authors of the Dragonlance novels, Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman, are suing Wizards of the Coast due to the breakdown of the revision process for the first draft of the first book of the, now in doubt, next trilogy of novels. Our topic this week is about using horror in your tabletop games. What are the considerations and how should you pace a one-shot or campaign?

The Weekly 065: Return of Heroquest, Honey & Hot Wax, Create for Mork Bork, 5E Racial Ability Rules Changes and the Year of Dune

Hasbro has revealed their plans to “reprint” Heroquest through their HasLab crowd-funding-like website. Honey & Hot Wax is an anthology of sex-positive roleplaying games. The collection of games varies from 2-player to games needing 6 to 12 players along with a facilitator or two. It is published by Pelgrane Press and was edited by Lucian Kahn and Sharang Biswas with a foreword by Naomi Clark of Consentacle. An open license for creating content for Mork Borg, the award-winning game published by Free League. The latest Adventurer’s League Guide contains new custom racial ability score rules. This gives us a preview of the new rules that Wizards of the Coast will be adding to 5E in the release of Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything coming soon. We lament the failure of 2020 as the year of Dune, with only the boardgame reprint being released while the Denis Villeneuve feature film and Modiphius 2d20 system will not be released until next year.

The Weekly 060: The Green Knight RPG, Cutie Marks and Dragons, NBCUniversal Making Comics and Adventure Begins Boardgame

A new TTRPG based on the new A24 film, directed by David Lowery, “The Green Knight” starring Dev Patel as Gawain. The Green Knight: A Quest for Honor RPG will include a Game Master’s Guide (with Rules of Play, Official Encounters, and A24 Bonus Quests), Map of the Realm, 5 character sheets, and a 20-sided die. NBCUniversal is entering the comic book industry at possibly the worst (or best?) time with the talents of Grant Morrison. Their fist title penned by Morrison will be Proctor Valley Road, the story of a group of girls that are suspected in the murders of teen boys. Hasbro is flexing its IP muscles by combining My Little Pony and Dungeons and Dragons. They will release a set of 5 4 1/2 inch ponies themed on the Rogue, Barbarian, Druid, and Wizard character classes. The set will also include a d20 and a pony-themed GM’s screen. Hasbro is also producing a new board game named “Dungeons and Dragons Adventure Begins”. This game is one of the only D&D items to be branded Hasbro as opposed to Wizards of the Coast. It includes 4 plastic miniatures, 4 20-sided dice, game tiles, and cards. The game is cooperative and made for 2-4 players ages 10 and up. Another D&D gateway product that will probably not find the same young audiences as the amazing Dungeon! or Heroquest games.
