Idle Red Hands Weekly 043: Heroforge Kickstarter, Logo Reveal for Dune Movie, Skies of Fire, Dishonored TTRPG and Two Player Game Jam

Heroforge runs a Kickstarter campaign for the 2.0 version of its miniature printing system. Modiphius is publishing a TTRPG version of the Arcane Studios’ Dishonored video game franchise. A photo of the logo for the Denis Villeneuve directed Dune movie was revealed and then immediately enforced with copyright notices to take it down. The second boxed set for Aeronautica Imperialis is being released by Games Workshop featuring the T’au Empire Air Caste called Skies of Fire. Chris combines Thirst and Hunger solo RPGs to make a two-player game for the Two-Player Game Jam.

Amazon now lets you play the Starfinder RPG with Alexa simply by saying “Alexa, play Starfinder” and eventually paying for the privilege. Werewolf Fifth Edition is coming in 2021. Cool Mini or Not Kickstarted a Zombicide version of Night of the Living Dead. Just because. C’mon! We played the Hope’s Last Day cinematic adventure for the Alien RPG. Modiphius will publish a deluxe version of Rangers of Shadow Deep by Joseph A. McCullough, the creator of Frostgrave and Ghost Archipelago. Preorders are now open on the Modiphius online store for delivery in February 2020. American High School RPG was a success. Hunger and Thirst are now in print and available on Itch.io. Reclaimer RPG by Chad Walker Kickstarter canceled due to photobashed artwork. Modiphius is producing 32mm miniatures for the World of Darkness RPG. Cubicle 7 Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader RPG Humble Bundle. Magpie Games, maker of Bluebeard’s Bride RPG, is currently having an online store sale. Blood of the Phoenix boxed set has new plastic Aeldari miniatures and is being split by Jeremy and Lyal. Probably unboxed as well. And your comments about our comments.

Lyal subs in for the now toothless Chris. Okinawa Comic-con happened. Modiphius is working on the Homeworld Revelations RPG based on the classic PC RTS game. Grimlord Games has a Kickstarter for Grim Dynasty, a Chinese-themed expansion for their Village Attacks boardgame. The new edition of Mercenaries, Spies and Private Eyes by Flying Buffaloe arrived and Lyal talks about solo adventures and the use of backstory for TTRPGs. We look to Good Bad Flicks on YouTube for RPG inspiration.

Another deep dive into an RPG where we have both read the book and played a few session. This time it is Mutant: Mechatron – Rise of the Robots by Free League. It uses their Year Zero Engine, d6 dice pool system, and although it is a stand-alone game your robots can play with characters in both Mutant Year Zero and Genlab, once they escape Mechatron-7. We give you an overview of the system, character creation and the setting. Also a discussion of the surprising challenge of playing self-aware robot player characters. If you are familiar with Mutant Year Zero this is a great new take on post-apocalyptic characters and if you are new to the system and setting, it is well worth your time. Find out if this game is for you as we dive deep into Mutant: Mechatron.

We take a look at the Star Trek Adventures Starter Set by Modiphius. It includes pre-generated character sheets, a ship sheet, dice, tokens, maps, and a starting adventure campaign. It uses the 2d20 system with threat and momentum as currency mechanics for both players and the gamemaster. This is a much more accessible option for trying the game and will get you playing right out of the box.
