A new Dungeons & Dragons novel, The Feywild Job, from Penguin Random House, set for release on June 30, 2026. This book is described as a “romantasy” novel and is written by World Fantasy Award and Nebula-winning author C.L. Polk in their first licensed media foray. The plot centers on a rogue named Saeldian, who has a magical pact to never fall in love, as they are forced to team up with their ex-lover, a charming bard named Kell, to steal a gem called “The Kiss of Enduring Love.” 

“Bob’s DCC Bundle,” a new Humble Bundle offering over 90 Dungeons Crawl Classics (DCC) RPG-inspired worldbuilding books for $40, a significant discount. The bundle was compiled by popular content creator Bob World Builder and is available until January 22, 2026. Notable inclusions are Bob’s own sourcebook Skrym, Grimtooth’s Old School Traps, and The Book of Fallen Gods. The first 7,500 buyers also receive four physical copies of iconic DCC adventures.

A Postmortem for 2025 including new RPGs like Toon RPG 2nd Edition and Ghost in the Shell RPG, industry news such as the shutdown of Wizards of the Coast’s “Project Sigil” VTT, and controversies like WizKids offering refunds for low-quality Baldur’s Gate 3 miniatures and DriveThruRPG removing the Rebel Scum RPG. The Weekly LIVE 265 – Household Bundle, Star Trek 2E Starter Set, N5 Delayed and Higher Tariffs

The “Household Bundle” offers English-language PDFs of the tabletop RPG “Household” by Riccardo Sirignano and Simone Formicola from Two Little Mice. Set in a wainscot fantasy world reminiscent of 19th-century Europe, players, as littlings (miniature folk), navigate political and social upheavals in a large abandoned house over five years following the First Household War. For $14.95, buyers receive the core rulebook, a practical guide on navigating the world, and a campaign sourcebook titled “A Saga of the Fragile Peace,” all available as DRM-free ebooks. Additionally, Two Little Mice will soon launch a new expansion, “Welcome to the Garden.”

Modiphius has announced the release of a new “2nd Edition Star Trek Adventures Starter Set,” launching in December 2024. The set includes everything new players need to begin exploring the Star Trek universe, such as a condensed rulebook, a 60-page sandbox campaign, reference sheets, dice, and tokens, retailing at $31.12.

Corvus Belli announced a delay of the new N5 Infinity ruleset release until December 2024, initially slated for November. The update was communicated via social media platforms, leaving fans disappointed but hopeful that the issue would soon be resolved. Pre-orders for “Operation Sandtrap,” a related set including starter forces and a play mat, continue to be available.

Concerns loom over potential tariffs proposed by the incoming Trump administration, which could severely impact the tabletop gaming industry. Experts fear tariffs on non-US goods (20%) and particularly harsh tariffs on Chinese imports (60-100%) would significantly raise production costs, potentially leading to increased prices, financial strain, and possible closures of game retailers and manufacturers. While some companies are preparing contingency plans, there remains hope that these tariffs may not be implemented or could be mitigated through industry adaptation and resilience.

The Weekly LIVE 211 – Netflix Sued by Evil Genius, Backerkit Bans AI, Undaunted Goes Scifi, Random House Drops D&D and Art by Nohr

Evil Genius Games is suing Netflix for allegedly backing out of a deal to create a tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) based on Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon movie. Evil Genius Games claims they delivered the game and related materials but Netflix canceled the contract and asserted ownership of the intellectual property without fair compensation.

BackerKit, a crowdfunding platform, announced a policy against AI-generated content on its platform, citing concerns about fair compensation and permission issues. The policy will restrict solely AI-generated content, but AI-assisted tools in editing and refinement will still be allowed. Essen Spiel, the world’s largest board game expo, admitted to using AI-generated artwork in promotional material for its 2023 event. The admission follows public criticism of other companies using AI-generated art, such as FryxGames and Stronghold Games for Terraforming Mars.

Osprey Games announced a new entry in the Undaunted board game series called “Undaunted 2200: Callisto,” moving away from World War II settings to sci-fi mech battles on Jupiter’s moon Callisto.

Penguin Random House will cease distributing Dungeons & Dragons products in mainstream bookstores from 2024. The distribution responsibility will shift to other distributors like Alliance, Diamond, and GTS.

Johan Nohr, the artist behind MÖRK BORG, launched a Kickstarter campaign for an art book containing over 300 illustrations, annotations, and behind-the-scenes content. The book will showcase Nohr’s artwork since the release of MÖRK BORG in 2019 and will be a large coffee table book with high-quality printing.

The Weekly LIVE 083: San Diego Comic-Con Cancelled, Marvel Signs with Penguin Random House and Kickstarter Manager Resigns

After some technical difficulties, we discuss San Diego Comic-Con 2021 being inevitably cancelled following the cancellation of their WonderCon. They will hold  Comic-Con@Home on July 23rd-25th and also announced Comic-Con Special Edition. Special Edition is a scaled-down version of the live event scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend. Should be interesting. Marvel Comics announced they will be ending their 27 year-old exclusive relationship with Diamond Distributors. They signed a new exclusive world-wide deal with Penguin Random House. Later on the day of this announcement Diamond Distributors sent a letter to comic retailers telling them that they will still be carrying Marvel books. A non-exclusive exclusive deal? Your guess is as good as ours. Also, after fallout of the cancellation of the Perfect RPG Kickstarter, Luke Crane will be departing his position at Kickstarter as community head. Finally, we discuss the evolution of the GM from their tribal beginnings to the more recent role of another kind of player, inspired by the article at Cannibal Halfling Gaming.
