In Part Three: The First Corporate Wars, the release of the Dark Symmetry has crippled the Inner Worlds by infecting “thinking machines”. Humanity is pushed to the brink of collapse by the loss of technology and the paranoia and violence that grows in its absence. Alternative technology is discovered allowing for space travel and secrets that were once thought buried surface with deadly results.

The Complete Mutant Chronicles is a new lore series covering the dark history of humanity. Starting with the death of Old Earth and the rise of the Megacorporations, the first Corporate Wars and the unleashing of the Dark Powers, then through the Dark Symmetry, Dark Legion, and finally the Dark Eden eras. Patrick Rothfuss and James D’Amato are creating an RPG set in the world of the Kingkiller Chronicles. Specifically, the University’s Arcanum where, with the author, Bee Zelda, Satine Phoenix, and Liz Anderson will play four students along with on the OneShot podcast every Monday. Mile High Comics of Denver, Colorado responds to DC Comics leaving Diamond Distribution. The core rules for the 9th edition of Warhammer 40k are released for free. The Bitter Reach, a new expansion and campaign setting for Forbidden Lands by Free League, has been officially released. We did an unboxing if you want a sneak peek.

Dungeon Scrawl, an excellent web-based mapping application, is in open BETA, free with no ads or paywall. Tunnels and Trolls has a new updated Bundle of Holding. Wizards of the Coast releases diversity errata for some popular adventures. Paizo apologizes for having players play the role of police in its most recent still unpublished adventure. All for One: Régime Diabolique RPG is a game of supernatural swashbuckling horror and adventure in a demon-plagued 17th century France, published in 2010. Origins Online run by GAMA is canceled due to their delayed BLM response and the subsequent protest.

Idle Red Hands 056: Game of Thrones Play D&D, Indomitus 40k 9E Box, Magic Cards Banned, Legend of Vox Machina Delayed and KFConsole

Cast members from the HBO A Game of Thrones series play Dungeons and Dragons for charity. The new boxed set for 9th edition Warhammer 40k, Indomitus, revealed. It is not a starter set but does include the new 9E core rulebook. Wizards of the Coast bans Magic the Gathering cards and not for gameplay or balance reasons. Legends of Vox Machina Series delayed due to pandemic and localization reasons with no new release date announced. Kentucky Fried Chicken announces the “release” of their KFConsole, opportunistically timed to take advantage of the Sony Playstation 5 and new Microsoft Xbox announcements.

Episode 227: How To Play Star Wars

If you played Star Wars as a kid on the playground or with the almost endless number of Kenner toys, you probably wanted to try it on the tabletop as a role-playing game. What is the best way to do it? What system would you use? Of the licensed game out there from West End Games or Fantasy Flight Games and also the fan homebrews, which system would you choose? Are there better systems that have never been adapted? We try to cover the topic including what makes a game feel like Star Wars and how you explore the universe without the rules getting in the way. This discussion could equally apply to all games based on popular intellectual properties and how to make a successful translation to the tabletop. Session zero and understanding player expectations as well as what are the limitations of the setting are also covered.

So sharpen those lightsabers and swaddle those HVTs as we dive deep into playing Star Wars as a roleplaying game from three different perspectives.

A great article with interviews on d20 Radio about the rise of single-artist TTRPGs by Egg Embry. Warhammer posts an inclusion statement. It shows a new social awareness at the company and also how you need to present yourself when you are worth more than a billion dollars. DC Comics leaves Diamond Distributors after 25 years, showing us a glimpse of the post-pandemic world. Swords and Wizardry is a streamlined version of White Box Dungeons and Dragons by Frog God Games. The Dark Eye has a second Bundle of Holding for the English language version. Wretched and Alone Game Jam deadline extended until the end of June. Itch.io raised over $5 million with its Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality.

Free League will be Kickstarting the new edition of Twilight 2000 later this year. CMON will now be publishing graphic novels based on their game properties, starting with Zombicide and Cthulhu: Death May Die. Never Going Home by WetiInk print on demand arriving soon. A new edition of Warhammer 40,000 is coming this year. We talk at length about it and its happy, not at all grimdark spot illustrations on the Games Workshop website. Xas Irkalla is a black metal hell with interesting mechanics and intense artwork. Nemesis Lockdown is a stand-alone expansion to Nemesis, the survival horror boardgame inspired by the Alien movies. The Wretched & Alone Game Jam gives you a chance to try survival horror mechanics, also inspired by Alien, with the setting of your choice.

It has been one year of Idle Red Hands Weekly. What is the future of this weekly podcast? We talk with Chris, one of the original hosts, about the origins of the Idle Red Hands and the origin of the name. GenCon 2020 is officially canceled, but will still exist as GenCon Online with details to come. We will be trying out the Doomtrooper Digital CCG online. A new edition of Twilight 2000 is on the horizon. Cubicle 7 has released the digital version of Age of Sigmar: Souldbound RPG. The print version is coming late summer. Frontier Developments has announced an Age of Sigmar real-time strategy game. Is this Dawn of War for re-imagined Warhammer fantasy? Riotminds is on Kickstarter with a 5E version of Trudvang Adventures. The irony doesn’t escape us.
